I did think about that with the mint… a prolific spreader! I might not keep the mint in there long term, but wanted to start it off in there.
The idea of the medium becoming root-bound, or even just clogged up with fish effluent was something we considered at the beginning and that is why we used a plastic tank instead of a tank liner. This system is easy to remove and rinse out and then? return, so upkeep should be reasonably simple.
